Emergency Siren & Shelter Information

Each individual city within Grand Forks County has their own protocols for siren testing. Please see the list below to find your jurisdiction. Each of the city’s activate their sirens upon notice of a Tornado Warning issued by the National Weather Service. Be aware that sirens are meant to alert people outside of their homes. You may not hear the sirens from inside your home. If the weather looks bad or is predicted to be severe, monitor NOAA Weather products or local media for the latest information. 

 

City of Emerado - Siren test takes place the first Monday of every month at 6:00P.M. The Emerado Elementary School is open as a storm shelter once the sirens are activated. 

City of Gilby - Regular siren testing dates pending.

City of Grand Forks - Siren test takes place the first Wednesday of every month at 1:00P.M. Swanson Hall will open as a storm shelter once the sirens are activated. 

City of Inkster - Siren test takes place the first Thursday of the month. There are currently no storm shelters in Inkster.

City of Larimore - Siren test takes place on the second Monday of the month at 6:30 or 7:00P.M. Larimore Elementary School is open as a shelter during tornado or severe thunderstorm warnings

City of Manvel - Regular siren testing dates pending. No shelters

City of Niagara - Regular siren testing dates pending. Niagara Fire Hall is open as a shelter once the sirens are activated. 

City of Northwood -  Siren tests take place the first Monday of each month at 6:30. Deaconess Health Center is open as a shelter once the siren is activated. 

City of Reynolds - Regular siren testing dates pending. There are currently no storm shelters in Reynolds.

City of Thompson - Regular siren testing dates pending. 

Larimore Dam - Siren testing takes place on the second Monday of the month at 6:30 or 7:00P.M. Storm Shelters are located on the campground near the bathrooms.  

Fordville Dam -  Storm shelter is located on the campgrounds at the entrance of camper parking. 

Turtle River State Park - Siren testing takes place every month on the first Wednesday. There are currently no shelters at Turtle River State Park
